Spencer C. Atkins

Director, Strategic Capital Bank

Commercial Real Estate Investor, The Atkins Group

Spencer C. Atkins joined the Strategic Capital Board of Directors in 1999. Mr. Atkins' professional experience began in 1991 with The Atkins Group, a real estate development company in Champaign, Illinois. Since that time he has been active in the ownership and management of over 1,280 apartment homes throughout Central Illinois. Other investment holdings include serving as Secretary on the Board of Directors of Plastic Container Corporation, an extrusion blowing molding company. He also serves as the Secretary on the Board of Directors for Stone Creek Golf Course. Mr. Atkins grew up in Monticello, Illinois, graduated from Champaign Central High School, and attended Southern Illinois University. He assists multiple charitable organizations and sits as the President of the Dugout Club, an assistance group to the University of Illinois Baseball program.

John E. Gorman

Chairman, Strategic Capital Bancorp, Inc. and Director, Strategic Capital Bank and Strategic Capital Trust Company

John E. Gorman has been a successful entrepreneur for more than 30 years. Since 1982, Mr. Gorman has been CEO of The Jorman Group, a privately owned organization with diversified business holdings. He is currently a Director on the Michigan State University Foundation Board. In addition, he was a Director of PrivateBancorp, Inc. from 1994 to April 2004.

Glenda L. Lane

Director, Strategic Capital Bank and Strategic Trust Company

Community Organizer

Glenda L. Lane joined the Strategic Capital Board of Directors in 1999. She graduated with high honors from the University of Illinois with a BSN and has been a part of the Strategic Capital "family" since 1990. Her husband is Dr. Larry Lane, and they have three married sons. She has attended an ICBA banking convention, a board of directors' workshop, and an Illinois bank directors' seminar. Mrs. Lane has been instrumental in the development (redesigned watershed, dredged lake, purchased 30 acres of land) of her Lake Park neighborhood since the 1970s and is the current President of The Lake Park Association. Other organizations that she has held positions in are The Art Club, P.E.O., Krannert Art Council, and Community Bible Study. In addition to banking, she has completed coursework in deaf education, art, grain marketing, and food preparation. Mrs. Lane is a valued member of the Champaign area as a respected community organizer.

Dwight Miller

Director, Strategic Capital Bank

Franchise Owner-Operator, McDonald's Corporation

Dwight Miller joined the Strategic Capital Board of Directors in 2004. Mr. Miller grew up in Detroit, Michigan, attended Findlay College in Findlay, Ohio and received a B.S. Degree in Business with an Accounting major. After college, he worked for Owen-Illinois, Inc., a large glass manufacturer where he held several accounting positions. In 1979, Mr. Miller went to McDonald's Corporation as a manager trainee and held numerous management positions until leaving to be self-employed in 1989. He became a franchisee for United Consumer Club (a private buying club) in 1989 with operation in Albany, New York, Buffalo, New York, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1989, Mr. Miller accepted an opportunity to become a franchisee for McDonald's in St. Charles, Missouri where he purchased three restaurants. In February of 2000, he purchased the Champaign/Urbana market, which represented seven restaurants. Mr. Miller currently serves as the Past Board Chair for the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce.

G. Michael Plaiss

G. Michael Plaiss joined the Strategic Capital Bank Board of Directors in 2004 and currently serves as Chief Investment Officer for Strategic Capital Bancorp, Inc. Prior to joining Strategic Capital, Mr. Plaiss was a Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of PrivateBank & Trust in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Plaiss is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

President & Chief Investment Officer, Strategic Capital Trust Company

Paul A. Ruedi is one of the founders of Strategic Capital and currently serves as President and Chief Investment Officer of Strategic Capital Trust Company. He is actively involved in all of the organizations owned by Strategic Capital Bancorp, Inc., guiding the institutions and providing investment direction on a corporate level. Mr. Ruedi is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry. He is a recognized expert on the technical underpinnings of the U. S. stock market. Mr. Ruedi speaks regularly to large groups of individuals on many investment and financial topics, and has been a co-hosts a bi-monthly radio program called "On The Money" for 14 years. 

Gary L. Svec

Chairman, Strategic Capital Bank and Strategic Capital Trust Company and Vice Chairman, Strategic Capital Bancorp, Inc.

Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Capital Bancorp, Inc., Strategic Capital Bank and Strategic Capital Trust Company

Gary L. Svec, CPA, has been working with banks in various capacities for over 17 years. Mr. Svec was the Chief Financial Officer for PrivateBancorp, Inc., a top-performing bank holding company. During his tenure, PrivateBancorp grew from $830 million in assets to over $1.5 billion, without acquisition. Additionally, net income grew from $4.4 million to over $11 million and earnings per share grew from $0.62/share to $1.42/share. Prior to becoming CFO of PrivateBancorp, Mr. Svec spent five years teaching investment and asset/liability management to various banking organizations around the country. Mr. Svec began his career by spending seven years with the accounting firm of Crowe Chizek in their banking practice.

Russell Taylor

Russell Taylor joined the Strategic Capital Board of Directors in 2000. He has been in the real estate business in Champaign County for over 30 years and is a broker/owner of RE/MAX Realty Associates. Mr. Taylor is also involved in land development and residential building. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in finance. Mr. Taylor serves on his church board, is actively involved in Promise Keepers, and serves as a school mentor.

G. Bryan Thomas

G. Bryan Thomas joined the Strategic Capital Board of Directors in 2004. He is President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for Canon Cochran Management Services, Inc. Mr. Thomas graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science Degree. The Insurance Institute of America awarded him the professional designation of Associate in Risk Management (ARM) in 1992 after he successfully passed the required series of national examinations. Mr. Thomas is also enrolled in the American Institute's Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Program. Mr. Thomas is active in a number of community and business organizations including the Champaign Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Boys and Girls Club.  He is a lifetime Alumni member of the University of Illinois and is an active member of the Young President's Organization (YPO).

Stephen M. Wills joined the Strategic Capital organization in 1999, specializing in lending for Strategic Capital Bank. Mr. Wills serves as President of Strategic Capital Bank and has been in the commercial banking industry for over 33 years and in the Champaign-Urbana market exclusively for over 19 years. He strives to build and maintain personal relationships with his clients to provide a true relationship banking experience. Mr. Wills is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a B.A. in Mathematics.

Timothy D. Woodard

Timothy D. Woodard joined Strategic Capital in 1999. Tim currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer for Strategic Capital Bank. He has over 16 years of banking experience in Central Illinois. Tim specializes in complex lending transactions involving commercial real estate, subdivision development, working capital, equipment and agricultural financing. He holds a B.S. in Finance from Illinois State University and an M.B.A. from Bradley University. He is also a graduate of the Illinois Bankers Association Agricultural Lending School, the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Program and the Vermilion Advantage Leadership Program. Mr. Woodard is a former Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve and is active in the local community, chairing the finance committees at both Judah Christian School and First Christian Church of Champaign.
